FIDO WANT TO FIT IN TOO!
Don’t forget about the family dog when moving.
So you’re moving (or have recently moved) into a new area. You’ve investigated where the grocery store is, the library, the pool, the playground, and the closest service station, but what about the closest off-leash park?
We are very fortunate in Calgary to have the largest number of off-leash spaces in north America! Check out the City of Calgary website to learn more about off-leash areas.
SOME TIPS FOR THE DOG PARK
It’s good practice to investigate the park on your own before introducing your furry friend. this gives you the opportunity to learn the traffic of the park, The types of dogs that hang out there, as well as the ‘drop locations.’ Remember even in an off leash park you are responsible to clean up after your dog.
It’s also a good idea to review the dog bylaws to ensure you don’t get yourself in any trouble with the regional by-law officer.
OFF LEASH AMBASSADOR PROGRAM
Also, there is a new program where volunteers are helping pet owners understand the rules in place at the off leash parks. Check out this clip showing the Off Leash Ambassador Program.
Once you’ve unpacked and settled in a little, be sure to take advantage of what our beautiful city has to offer. Ever notice how dog people all know each other as “Sparky’s mom’ or “Rex’s dad?” Funny!
Having a canine is a great way to meet your neighbours, but don’t forget to introduce yourself!
